Umrah SIM card: buy in Saudi Arabia or get an eSIM?
There are three ways to get internet during Umrah: buy a Saudi SIM card after landing, install a travel eSIM before you fly, or use your home operator's roaming. For most pilgrims an eSIM is the easiest and often the cheapest; a local SIM costs about the same for very large plans and gives you a Saudi number. Roaming is almost always the most expensive.

Which should you choose?
- Choose an eSIM if you want to be online the moment you land, travel with elderly parents or children, or arrive at a busy time when airport queues are long.
- Choose a Saudi SIM if you stay a month or longer, need a lot of data, or need a Saudi phone number. Your phone must be unlocked.
- Avoid relying on roaming for data. If you use it for calls, turn off data roaming so you are not charged per MB.

Frequently asked questions
Can I buy a Saudi SIM card at Jeddah or Madinah airport?
Yes. STC, Mobily and Zain have counters in the arrivals halls. You need your passport and visa, and the SIM is registered to you before it works, which can take a while when many flights land together.
Is a Saudi SIM cheaper than an eSIM for Umrah?
Not usually. Compare the two tables above: for small and medium plans an eSIM is often cheaper, and for very large plans the prices are close. The eSIM is also ready before you fly, with no queue or registration on arrival.
Do I need a Saudi phone number for Umrah?
Most pilgrims do not. WhatsApp keeps working on your home number, and your home SIM still receives SMS codes. A Saudi number helps if your group leader or hotel asks for one, or for a long stay.
Can I use both a Saudi SIM and my Pakistani or Indian SIM?
Yes, if your phone supports two lines (two SIM slots, or one SIM plus eSIM). Set mobile data to the Saudi line and turn off data roaming on your home SIM.
