SAUDI ARABIA · UMRAH & HAJJ

How much data do I need for Umrah?

Most pilgrims need less data than they think. For WhatsApp, maps and a few video calls home, about 0.5 GB a day is enough. Daily video calling or sharing a hotspot with family can double that.

What uses data

ActivityTypical data use
WhatsApp messages and photos50–150 MB a day
Google Maps navigation5–20 MB an hour
WhatsApp voice callabout 0.5–1 MB a minute
WhatsApp or other video callabout 0.3–1 GB an hour
Social media scrolling (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook)about 0.3–1 GB an hour
Watching YouTube videosabout 0.5–1.5 GB an hour

A rough guide; actual use depends on video quality and app settings.

Tip: set WhatsApp to download media on Wi-Fi only and lower the video quality in social apps to make your data last. Sharing with family? Read how to share an eSIM hotspot.
