PAYMENTS

How to pay for an eSIM without a credit card (Pakistan & India)

Most travel eSIM providers charge in US dollars and expect a card. You do not need a credit card: a debit card enabled for international payments, a virtual card or PayPal usually works.

Option 1: your bank debit card

  1. Open your banking app and find the card settings.
  2. Turn on international or e-commerce / online transactions. Some banks call it “international usage”.
  3. Check the daily limit for foreign transactions is higher than the eSIM price.
  4. Keep your phone nearby: the bank sends a one-time password (OTP) to confirm the payment.

In Pakistan, most Visa and Mastercard debit cards work this way. In India, Visa, Mastercard and many RuPay cards work once international usage is enabled.

Option 2: a virtual or app-based card

Many banks and fintech apps issue a virtual Visa or Mastercard you can create in minutes inside the app and use for online payments. In Pakistan, app-based accounts such as SadaPay and NayaPay offer virtual cards; in India, many banks offer virtual debit or forex cards. Check the app’s fees and whether international online payments are allowed.

Option 3: PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay

Some eSIM providers accept PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay at checkout. These still charge a linked card, but they can be easier when a card form keeps failing.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy an eSIM with a Pakistani debit card?

Usually, yes. Most Visa and Mastercard debit cards issued in Pakistan work for international online payments once you enable them in your banking app or by calling your bank. Expect a currency conversion fee and taxes on foreign-currency transactions.

Can I buy an eSIM with UPI?

A few providers accept UPI or Indian wallets, but most international eSIM sellers do not. Use an international-enabled debit card (Visa, Mastercard or RuPay) instead, or PayPal where the provider offers it.

Why was my card declined when buying an eSIM?

The most common reasons are international online payments being switched off, a low daily limit for foreign transactions, or a one-time password not reaching your phone. Enable international payments in your banking app, check your limit, and try again.

Is it safe to pay for an eSIM online?

Buy from a provider with clear prices, refund terms and contact details, and pay by card or PayPal so you can dispute a charge if needed. Avoid paying strangers by bank transfer for an eSIM.
